Wardens' report20 February 2006 Andrew is really involved with the local youths making a DVD, which will allow them to talk openly about their thoughts and what it is like growing up in the programme area today. We are expecting some interesting comments and hopefully some positive ideas for the future. I have been busy with the dog fouling initiative. On Saturday 8th April we plan to have a roadshow on the Seafront in Ilfracombe. This will involve the dog warden and other agencies and provide information and advice on all aspects of dog-ownership, including the need to clean up after your dog. Be aware that penalties do exist now for dog fouling: not only does the dog warden issue fixed penalties but the police are exploring on the spot fines for littering which covers dog fouling and could well be using this in an area close to you. The cost of this to your pocket would be a £50 fine. I also spent the afternoon at Ilfracombe Infant school where following on with our road safety initiative the children were entertained by Professor Martyn and his Road Magic Show a fun way to reinforce the safe way to cross the road. I think everybody enjoyed it. On a more serious note Andrew and I had some Domestic Violence Awareness training. This ongoing training and working with other agencies is a valuable source of information to bring back to our communities about the support that is out there. Startling figures show the need for outreach services in our area. On a more general note the area seems to be waking up for Spring. We have been getting out on foot and some of these cold dry sunny days are bringing out what seems to be an army of gardeners and business owners preparing for the season ahead. This is allowing us to stop and speak to many people we may not have met yet. If you spot a warden in your area do look up from your tasks and say hello. Helen Frisby and Andrew Kellaway |
