Wardens' report6 February 2006 Hello again just a quick update from the Neighbourhood Wardens. We are getting our teeth into our projects at the moment. Andrew has been busy liaising with the local young people about making a DVD with them - they will have a free rein to speak openly about their thoughts and what its like growing up in the programme area today. We are expecting some interesting comments and hopefully some positive ideas for the future. I have been busy with regard to the Dog Fouling issue. We are hoping to have a joint event on the Seafront involving the local service providers and voluntary agencies - but be aware the penalties are out there now! The dog warden is issuing fixed penalty tickets and the Police are exploring on the spot fines for littering which covers dog fouling. The cost of this to your pocket would be a £50 fine. Andrew and I have been also undergone Domestic violence awareness training. It was interesting to learn of the work going on in the programme area with regard to outreach and some of the startling figures that highlight the seriousness of the problem. This ongoing training and working with other agencies is a valuable source of information to bring back to our communities about the support that is out there. On a more general note we have been getting out and about on foot. Some of these dry sunny days although cold have brought out what seems to be an army of gardeners and business owners preparing their properties for the season ahead giving the area a sense of waking up for the spring this is enabling us to stop and speak to many people we may not have met yet. So if you spot a warden in your area do look up from your tasks and say hello. Helen Frisby and Andrew Kellaway |
