Help keep children safe before and after school

Ilfracombe Infants and Junior schools, Devon and Cornwall Police, Transform, and Road Safety staff at Devon County Council are joining forces to reduce the risk of children being injured outside the schools in Ilfracombe by highlighting the risks and penalties of parking on the zig-zag lines outside the school gates and, with parents, exploring new methods to get children to and from school which don’t involve the car – like setting up a walking bus or using community transport buses.

Easy tips to keep children near school safe:

  1. Try parking in a safe place away from the school and walk the final leg of the journey
  2. Check your speed when driving near schools and be prepared for the unexpected
  3. Walk your children to school if you can
  4. Teach your children pedestrian skills

Children at Ilfracombe Infants School provided the art-work for a leaflet which has been given to all the parents. This wonderful drawing was done by Emma.
