Community Action Days

Community Action Days are a great way for residents to meet service providers such asMeeting North Devon Homes the Police, Fire Service, Green Sweep, Council staff and North Devon Homes face to face, raise issues and start working out ways to improve quality of life. It's also a great chance to get rid of any unwanted bulky items of waste as Transform provides plenty of skips in a "waste amnesty".

Transform will be holding four Community Action Days a year. The first two have taken place in Ilfracombe, but Action Days will be coming to Combe Martin and Bratton Fleming later this year. The days need to be tailored to meet the needs of the community, so if you have ideas on how the day should go in your area, give Transform a call on 01271 867131 or email the team.

Oxford Grove, Ilfracombe, 12 November 2004

Three skip loads of rubbish were removed and the hedge in Cow Lane tidied up on 12 November. The Police, Fire Service, Environmental Health Officers, Housing officers and Transform listened to residents’ concerns and learned that the taxi rank, parking, rubbish disposal and noise are among the top issues. Transform and Community Development workers helped to re-form the Residents’ Association, which negotiated with Green Sweep for large lockable bins to store rubbish between collections. The group is now working on the other issues raised with help from Transform.

Slade and Burnside Estates, Ilfracombe, 28 April 2005

The day was organised by the Police and Transform, with the aim of focussing on theFilling in the questionnaire needs of Slade and Burnside residents. Transform held a focus group with 15 residents before the day to find out what they wanted on the day. They suggested the questions to go on the residents' questionnaire that Transform carried out during the day.

Filling the skips!Around 50% of the residents completed the questionnaire. The top issues were traffic calming and facilities for young people. There was also interest in setting up a Residents Association and Transform and North Devon Homes will help make that happen.

Six skips of rubbish were removed and over 20 bin bags of litter were picked up by Gerard Knight, the Town Council's hygiene operative.
